Date: 15 June 2026

RANZ Roof of the Year 2026: Topline Roofing Named Finalists - Twice

We are thrilled to share that Topline Roofing was named a finalist in the RANZ Commercial Roof of the Year 2026 Large Scale Commercial Category - over 1,000m2. Not once. Twice.

St Patricks Chapel, Dilworth Campus and Summerset St Johns Village were independently selected as finalists; 2 of our 3 submitted projects recognised, occupying 2 of the 4 finalist positions in the category alongside Graham Hill Roofing's Te Kaha Stadium, which took out the top honour. We are proud of what this represents for our team and grateful to everyone who made both projects possible.

"To have two projects recognised in the same category is a real credit to your team and the standard of work you are putting into the New Zealand roofing landscape. The judging panel was genuinely impressed."

Luke Boustridge. CEO, RANZ - Roofing Association of New Zealand

What is the RANZ Roof of the Year Award?

RANZ Roof of the Year 2026The RANZ Roof of the Year is New Zealand's most prestigious roofing industry award, presented annually at the RANZ Conference by the Roofing Association of New Zealand, which represents over 350 roofing businesses and 2,750+ roofing professionals nationwide. The Commercial Roof of the Year Large Scale Commercial category recognises projects over 1,000m2, judged solely on written submissions and imagery by an independent panel. No site visits, no second chances. The work has to speak entirely for itself.

2026 marks the first time Topline Roofing has entered the RANZ Roof of the Year awards. We have been RANZ members since 1997 and have quietly delivered roofing on some of New Zealand's most significant commercial projects over the years. Looking back, we wonder what might have happened had we entered earlier. But we are here now, and 2 out of 3 on the first attempt feels like a pretty good start.

Which Topline Roofing Projects Made the RANZ Roof of the Year Finals?

Two of Topline Roofing's three submitted projects were named finalists in the RANZ Commercial Roof of the Year 2026 Large Scale Commercial Category, representing 2 of the 4 finalist positions in the category:

How Many Projects Did We Submit and How Many Made Finalist?

Topline Roofing submitted three projects for consideration in the RANZ Commercial Roof of the Year 2026 - Large Scale Commercial Category. Two of those three were selected as finalists. That is a result that reflects not just the quality of individual projects but the consistently high standard Topline Roofing delivers across everything we do.

There were four finalists in the Large Scale Commercial Category in total. Topline Roofing occupied 2 of those 4 positions, going head to head with some of the best large-scale commercial roofing work produced in New Zealand this year.

What Does the RANZ Judging Panel Look For?

The RANZ Commercial Roof of the Year judging criteria assesses entries across five categories:

  • Workmanship and technical execution: precision, consistency, and quality of installation across large areas, including penetrations, gutters, junctions, and complex transitions
  • Complexity and technical challenges: difficulty due to roof size, geometry, building use, access, height, weather exposure, and how the team resolved challenges while maintaining quality
  • Craftsmanship and visual outcome: straightness, uniformity, and overall appearance of the completed roof, including seams, fixing patterns, flashings, and detailing
  • Material selection and system suitability: suitability of materials for commercial durability, environmental conditions, and expected lifespan
  • Project story, professionalism, and documentation: clarity and completeness of the submission, explanation of technical elements, and quality of imagery

Entries are judged solely on written submissions and up to five images. No site visits, no second chances. The quality of the roofing work has to speak entirely for itself. Both Topline Roofing projects were assessed against this framework and independently selected as finalists by the judging panel.

What Does It Mean to Be a RANZ Roof of the Year Finalist?

RANZ Roof of the Year 2026 Award FinalistsCompeting against the wider field of over 350 RANZ member businesses nationwide, being named a finalist in the RANZ Roof of the Year is a genuine mark of distinction. These are not self-nominated participation awards. Entries are independently assessed by a panel with deep industry knowledge and high standards, and only the best make the finals.

For commercial building owners, property managers, developers, and main contractors choosing a roofing contractor for a significant project, RANZ Roof of the Year finalist status provides independent, expert validation of Topline Roofing's quality, not just claimed by us, but recognised by the industry body that sets the standards for roofing in New Zealand.

It is also worth noting that St Patricks Chapel, Dilworth Campus was simultaneously shortlisted for the NZIA Auckland Architecture Awards 2026; recognition from two of New Zealand's most respected built environment award programmes in the same year, for the same project. Recognition across two respected programmes in the same year, for the same project, speaks for itself.

Who Won the RANZ Commercial Roof of the Year 2026?

The RANZ Commercial Roof of the Year 2026 - Large Scale Commercial Category was awarded to Graham Hill Roofing for the Te Kaha Stadium project in Christchurch, announced at the RANZ Gala Dinner on Thursday 11 June 2026. It is an outstanding project and a thoroughly well-deserved win. Congratulations to everyone at Graham Hill Roofing involved in delivering it.

While we did not take home the award this year, standing alongside Te Kaha Stadium as one of only 4 finalists recognised at this level in the Large Scale Commercial Category is an achievement we are genuinely and wholeheartedly proud of.
